Cariuma Launches Ultra Low-Waste Version of Signature Sneaker for Earth Month
To celebrate Earth Month, Cariuma has unveiled an ultra-low-waste version of its signature sneaker, the OCA. This new edition takes sustainability to the next level by incorporating even more eco-friendly materials and practices, and by planting ten trees for every pair sold—up from the usual two.
The revamped OCA sneaker features a blend of organic cotton and recycled canvas, with a 100% organic cotton lining for added sustainability. The outsole is crafted from Cariuma’s innovative BLOOM rubber, a lightweight and completely renewable material derived from algae.
Additional sustainable elements include a bio-based oil insole with a cork insert, organic cotton laces made from recycled plastics, bio-based eyelets, and “burnt” no-fray lace tips. The sneaker is handmade with a fully-stitched outsole, ensuring durability and minimizing waste.
A Continued Commitment to Sustainable Innovation
Cariuma’s commitment to sustainability is well-established. Last year, the brand launched the IBI Slip-On, which was marketed as the sneaker with the lowest carbon footprint ever recorded. The launch was met with tremendous success, quickly amassing a waitlist of 20,000 by September. Building on this momentum, Cariuma also introduced sustainable winter boots made from its durable vegan suede.
The new ultra-sustainable OCA sneaker will be produced on-demand, reducing waste by avoiding unsold inventory. It is available for purchase until April 30, reflecting Cariuma’s ongoing dedication to creating environmentally responsible footwear.
